Job Responsibilities:

Supervise the work of (4) Payroll Specialists; reviews individual and group performance and productivity compared to defined standards

Maintain oversight of bi-weekly payroll for over 22, 000 employees in a Healthcare workforce to ensure accurate and timely payment from time capture through check processing

Develop and enforce payroll policies and implement internal controls as appropriate

Drive process improvements by constantly challenging current processes and seeking best practices

Organizes and distribute payroll workload based on pay cycle schedules and statutory requirements

Analyze results by transaction type, error rates, and processor and adjust workflow, policy, and assignments accordingly

Supports the month-end close process by ensuring that payroll liabilities are accurately reflected for the current period in the general ledger

Oversees all functions associated with set-up and administration of the automated time and attendance system

Responds to and resolve employee inquiries regarding payment processing within approval authority

Leads payroll staff in the preparation of payroll audit schedules for annual financial audits, regulatory audits, etc

Ensures that internal policies and controls are in place with regard to payroll input procedures, security of personal information, supporting documentation requirements, approval authority, etc

Ensures compliance with published policies and procedures, or authorizes exceptions to existing policy on an exception basis

Assists and coach staff with troubleshooting projects, processing issues, and policy enforcement

Develops processes and controls to streamline pay affecting processes such as new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.

Job Information:

Location: Tacoma, WA (must be on-site for training)

Pay Rate: $45-$55 per hour

Must be comfortable working overtime

Candidate Requirements:

Bachelor s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field, or an Associate s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience may be substituted for Bachelor s degree required, provided the individual commits to pursuing and completing the degree within a specified time frame

5+ years of recent accounting and/or payroll experience required

3+ years of recent management or direct supervisory experience required
  • Detailed experience working with automated time and attendance systems

Experience in creating and working with computerized spreadsheets and data bases, and familiarity with data processing capabilities and procedures

Must be a strong team player and own accountability for the team s success

Previous work history that demonstrates independent judgment, strong analytical skills, fact finding, problem solving, leadership, organization, prioritization and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAP) and regulations pertinent to Payroll processing activities
  • Demonstrated expertise in Payroll processing and administration

Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare financial concepts
  • Experience with, and competent in use of, a variety of software applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Access and ERP systems used by the Finance Department
  • Experience using general ledger and budget software systems

Experience with Cronos or Workday a plus but not necessary

A CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certificate is nice but not necessary

Healthcare industry experience preferred but not necessary
